10 Great Rock Songs Written In Anger

7. Too Many People - Paul McCartney

Though the Beatles were known as one of the happiest bands of the 60's era, things started to get nasty by the time they went their separate ways. With John Lennon doing peace efforts with Yoko Ono and Paul McCartney developing a reputation as a dictator, the peace and love vibe didn't really seem to work anymore.

Instead of just releasing more happy-go-lucky songs, McCartney went back into the studio and put out "Too Many People," which took aim at his songwriting partner. Since Paul had gotten so much flak for his demanding ways, he took the opportunity to criticize John's political leanings, which he thought were too holier-than-thou for a pop star to be doing.

The song also seems to blame Lennon specifically for the break up of the Beatles, saying that he "took his lucky break and broke it in two." This prompted an ongoing songwriting struggle between the tour for the next few years, with Lennon roasting Paul on "How Do You Sleep?" and Paul attempting to patch things up on the song "Dear Friend." The Beatles may have seemed like the most carefree musicians in the world, but songs like these show you what was really going on behind the scenes.
