10 Great Rock Songs Written In Anger

2. Death On Two Legs - Queen

Every time angry songs are brought up in rock music, you typically think of something loud, abrasive, and almost metallic in presentation. At the same time, even the rock greats of the early days found time to vent their frustrations in song.

Coming to their first artistic peak with A Night At the Opera, Queen were on the verge of a breakthrough while being drained by their management company. While the band's previous records had done pretty well and had even spawned massive hits like "Killer Queen," the band were broke thanks to an all-encompassing deal they had made with their management.

Instead of just writing a typical Queen rocker, Freddie Mercury offered up this sarcastic number as a direct response to the suits the band had been in business with. Starting as just as piano tune, the song being a hard rocking showstopper with Mercury lambasting the higher-ups in the company with both sarcasm and vitriol. The band were so brash about the song that they even made it the first track on the record, which presented them as true artists refusing to cower to any label's demands. Queen's music may be full of jaunty feats of rock brilliance, but their more ferocious side was never afraid to rear its head.
