10 Great Rock Songs Written In Anger

3. The Rock Show - Blink-182

Blink-182 were really hitting their stride once the millennium turned a corner. After releasing the pop punk masterwork Enema of the State, the band went right back into the studio to work on the follow-up. Though the sessions for Take Off Your Pants and Jacket produced fantastic tunes, the label was not as happy with the final results.

Once the mastering was complete, the label liked the album but complained that it should be worked on a bit longer because it didn't have that summertime single for kids to latch onto. Infuriated by the more business-minded thinking of their superiors, Mark Hoppus went home and set about writing the stupidest single cut he could as a goof on the whole ordeal.

What started out as a goof quickly turned into solid gold, with that stupid single cut becoming the basis for the song "The Rock Show." At the same time, Tom Delonge's additional frustration prompted him to write the song "First Date," which went on to be another massive single from the record. Though it was definitely tense between the band and the label at the time, both have seemed to have won out in the end, with the band getting one of the biggest concert staples of their career.
