10 Great Singles That Weren't Originally Released On A Studio Album

4. Death Stranding - Chvrches

Written to accompany Kojima's 2019 brain child, Chvrches tune of the same name is one of the Scottish band's best.

Though its ties to the video game sphere may render it less popular than the likes of break-out hit The Mother We Share or their feature on Marshmello's Here With Me, this 2019 non-album single sees the Scottish trio revel in what Matt Wareham of the BBC would call an ‘electronic epic.'

It’s far from the funky tones of Depeche Mode, yet the punchy chorus matched with Mayberry's lovely, wispy vocal notes makes it instantly recognisable in the band’s ever-expanding catalogue. Death Stranding, released in 2019, is the last original song from the group until they returned this summer with the superb He Said She Said, the first feature single from their upcoming fourth studio album Screen Violence.

In a soundtrack prioritising the lo-fi rumblings of Low Roar and Silent Poets, Chvrches offering is decidedly more unique, ditching plucky instrumentation and leaning into a synth-pop melody that somehow never feels out of place amongst the above artists.

Achieving such a feat in a game from the abstract mind of Hideo Kojima is impressive to say the least.
