10 Great Songs By HATED Hard Rock Bands
8. Butterfly - Crazy Town
It's kind of a shame when bands end up as one-hit wonders. Even though you may have much more to give the rock community, it doesn't matter when you live in the shadow of your one big song. Other times though, some bands turn into one-hit wonders for the right reasons.
From day one, Crazy Town seemed to embody every dumb cliche of the nu metal genre, from the mindless lyrical style to the machismo coming from frontmen Epic and Shifty Shellshock. Most of the band's first record is just the run-of-the-mill downtuned guitar jams meant to be blasted by frat guys the world over, but it turned out their one fluke single was their most listenable song to date.
That being said, "Butterfly" isn't the best thing in the world, with most of the instrumentation being an interpolation of an instrumental track by the Red Hot Chili Peppers. However, the idea of two frontmen talking about their feelings over a mellow electric guitar was so crazy it ended up going from cringey back to endearing.
Shortly after this, Crazy Town quickly went back into the shadows as one of nu metal's sillier acts. "Butterfly" may not be a masterpiece by any stretch, but for these guys, it's a welcome change of pace regardless.
