10 Great Songs By HATED Hard Rock Bands
7. For The Movies - Buckcherry
In the 2000's, where pop punk and nu metal were dominating the rock scene, who was really asking for a band like Buckcherry? Instead of the sounds of the day, these guys were taking all the tired cliches of the 80's hair metal scene and injecting it with punk to create a borderline ridiculous hard rock meatloaf. While guitarist Keith Nelson had the occasional great lick, most of the band's tunes were 3-minute exercises of rock and roll mockery.
At the same time, the band's debut actually ended up having a pretty decent tune sprinkled in the mix. Though many people single out "Lit Up" as the band's best, the vocals of Josh Todd still sound like the feral shrills of someone trying to do Cross-Fit while singing.
However, "For the Movies" is the one moment that actually brings the vibe down to a comfortable level, with the guitars plodding along with shimmering open chords. Rather than blow out your eardrums, the chorus understands the importance of restraint, with Todd dialed down to a more manageable vocal register.
The subject matter of a broken relationship is about as rudimentary as it gets for this genre of music, but for a band aiming for hard rock stardom, it made a decent enough start.
