10 Greatest Arctic Monkeys Songs
9. Four Out Of Five
Tranquility Hotel Base & Casino is the band's most unique album to date. Alex Turner muses on technology, politics, religion and other subjects via the lens of the titular Moon resort. Four Out Of Five is essentially the hotel brochure. It's one giant advertisement for the resort, enticing the listener to come and stay.
The significance of 'Four Out Of Five' comes to a head only when you take into consideration how much the narrator is attempting to sell us the idea of this lunar resort. He tries his best to entice his audience, before saying 'It was well reviewed, four stars out of five'. Alex Turner himself spoke about this line and how music critics never give a perfect hundred. The idea of perfection is unattainable. It's most likely a tongue-in-cheek jab at the value of music reviews.
Alex Turner on this song sounds almost as if he is rapping with his calculated and steady flow, just upping the level of cool it exudes. The last minute bursts into a cascade of different sounds, before coming to an abrupt halt.
A standout moment from a bizarre but extremely creative album.
