10 Greatest Arctic Monkeys Songs

6. Why’d You Only Call Me When You’re High?

This R&B inspired song from AM is thematically similar to a lot of the songs from their debut album, but takes a much more laid back and seductive approach. It has our narrator drunk and out looking for a one night stand. Pestering this girl whom he only seems to contact when he's intoxicated, as if he is either ashamed of her existence or has no real intention of having a meaningful relationship beyond a physical one.

The song is essentially a comment on the sense of entitlement some males have to sex. Of course it's also a literal description of an attempted booty call. It works both ways.

This is the smoothest and catchtiest portayal of drunk dialing ever recorded, and is definetely the stand out track from their fifth album.
