10 Greatest Band Rivalries In Rock History
3. Blur vs. Oasis
After the fad of grunge came and went at the start of the 90's, the rock world gave way to a new style of music that threw it back to the old days of rock and roll grandeur. At the heart of this Britpop genre were Oasis, but the band's ongoing feud with rivals Blur made things a lot more tense.
Attempting to seize on their creative hot streak and competitiveness with each other, the two bands decided to release singles on the same day to see who would truly be the kings of the movement. With Oasis putting out "Roll With It" and Blur offering up "Country House," the battle lines were drawn in the August of 1995. The end result showed Blur coming out on top, which frontman Noel Gallagher did not take lightly. In an interview shortly after their "loss," he said that he hoped that the members of Blur would "catch AIDS and die," which he apologized for later down the line.
Ever since their prime in the 90's, Oasis seemed to have made their peace with the matter, with Liam Gallagher calling Blur a "guilty pleasure" and Noel even lending a hand to Damon Albarn's project Gorillaz in 2017. Each bands' golden period may have been a bit nasty, but over time things have been able to sort themselves out.
