10 Greatest Bass Players In Rock Music History
3. Flea - Red Hot Chili Peppers
There aren't that many people in the rock community who could be considered 'rock star' bass players. While there are some bands who have become stars, no one really seeks out the guy in the background plucking out the rhythms or anything.
When Red Hot Chili Peppers came on the scene though, everything changed once we got a load of Flea.
Though every single guitarist the Chili Peppers have had during their tenure have been amazing, they all understand that they're playing second fiddle to Flea, who manages to play circles around the rest of the band every single night.
Being as much informed by funk greats like Bootsy Collins as he was with the punk rock movement, there's a lot of aggression in Flea's playing, almost as if he's playing every single note as if it'll be the last one that he ever plays.
What's even more impressive is seeing how much his style has changed over the years. While he still does manage to sprinkle in a funky groove here and there, seeing him branch out into more melodic stuff on albums like Stadium Arcadium made us see him in a totally different light.
Compared to the usual bass players of his time, Flea is a guy who's looking at the big picture and is going to bring as much music to the table as he can.
