10 Greatest Blues Rock Guitarists

8. Jimmy Page

Jimmy Page is a guitarist that seems to defy definition. After laying down fantastic hard rock with British Invasion band the Yardbirds, Page got together a rough and tumble ensemble to form the mighty Led Zeppelin.

While Led Zeppelin always maintained a more eclectic mix of styles that included metal and acoustic rock, the band's soul always remained in the blues. As Zeppelin went to great heights on each album, Page's guitar always remained the driving force behind the band.

For the best of Page's tone, Zeppelin's first two records are a clear indication of why Page worked so well in the blues-rock music of the Yardbirds. His manic energy behind the fretboard led to bold new innovations on the guitar like the use of a bow and even alternative tunings. As people have said in the past, his style does tend to sound a bit sloppy, but the best way to his erratic style would most likely be "off-kilter brilliance."

Even when not playing straight blues numbers, Page always brought the blistering gravitas to every song the band decided to tackle. Instead of being a guitar hero, Jimmy Page is more deserved of the title of Blues Guitar Wizard.
