10 Greatest Classic Rock Drummers Of All Time

4. Ginger Baker

The infamous Ginger Baker was the volatile talent sat behind the kit for Classic Rock three-piece Cream. Baker was well-known as a testing character to deal with but even better known as one of the finest drummers around.

From the subtle swaying beats of Strange Brew to the iconic rolling march of Sunshine of Your Love, Baker’s drumlines are some of the most instantly recognisable in Rock’N’Roll. In Cream’s song Toad, Baker is given the free-reign he so richly deserves to display his credentials as one of the greatest and most talked about soloist drummers.

However, more than that, Baker was able to reign in this uncanny ability to stand out from the crowd for the band. During his days with Cream, Baker was like a controlled blaze behind the kit. Displaying nuance and subtly unbecoming of his natural instincts to wail on the kit like no one else could, Baker cemented his status as one of the great drummers of any era.

A fantastic documentary entitled ‘Beware of Mr. Baker’ chronicled the man for the once in a lifetime personality he was, but behind that eccentric exterior was one hell of a drummer.
