10 Greatest Comebacks In Rock History

8. Creatures of the Night - KISS

By the start of the '80s, it was no longer cool to be in KISS. While the band's mix of arena rock and horrifying makeup worked wonders in the mid '70s, the afterglow of their disco years made them seem more cartoony than frightening. After the disastrous concept album Music from the Elder, the band had to hunker down and reach inside themselves to deliver something good...and boy did they deliver.

Coming at the start of the '80s, Creatures of the Night showed Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley creating some of the most savage hard rock they had released since Alive!. Though the band had lost founding members Peter Criss and Ace Frehley, the addition of Eric Carr behind the kit made for one of the most thunderous drum sounds ever to be put on a KISS record.

Beyond just the sonics, the entire album works as a tight collection of 9 tracks that balance both dark sides of the band, from the mammoth rhythm of "I Love It Loud" to the sweeping drama that is laced throughout "I Still Love You." KISS may not have kept their trademark facepaint on for too much longer, but this entire album helped usher the Hottest Band in the World into the next decade with ease.
