10 Greatest Corey Taylor Vocal Performances
1. Wait and Bleed - Slipknot
It's hard to really pin down one song that says it all for Corey Taylor. From hard rock to ballads to some of the most brutal metal imaginable, the man really is everything you want in a maniacal rock singer. However, if you're looking for the first taste of Taylor's vocal magic, you have to go back to when we first got acquainted with him on the band's self-titled debut.
Launching the band into the stratosphere, "Wait and Bleed" is one of the most harrowing tracks on the group's first record, as it details a man having dreams about killing himself only to wake up and find himself with slit wrists. The scenario is already great for a metal act, but Corey somehow makes it even more infectious with the way he screams. For as many pure screaming vocals as he's done over the years, this song offers a unique hybrid by having a screaming passage with an actual melody behind it, which quickly gives way to the singalong chorus every Maggot knows by heart at this point.
Corey Taylor has come into his own as one of rock's greatest singers over the years, but this feat of musicianship is worthy enough to be written on his tombstone once he passes on into the next life.
