10 Greatest Diss Tracks In Rock History

3. Starf*ckers. Inc - Nine Inch Nails

Trent Reznor kind of strikes you as someone you don't really want to stir up any sh*t with. Throughout Nine Inch Nails' early discography, the character portraits he inhabits on Pretty Hate Machine and the Downward Spiral are enough to chill you to the bone. So imagine how caustic something will sound if you end up breaking up with the guy.

Starting off with its profane title, Starf*ckers Inc. seems like a general dismissal of anyone who tries to make it in show business just to be famous. While there is a lot of generality surrounding the title and even a few choice verses, the origins lay in someone who is no stranger to diss tracks: Courtney Love. After the tragic death of Kurt Cobain, it was rumored that Love and Reznor dated for a while, after which Reznor wrote this song as a bit of petty payback.

Once you have that context, it's get a little harder to ignore the genuine anger brought across as he talks about her being a "shallow little **** trying to make a scene." It gets even more uncomfortable when you see the video, with an actress presumably playing Courtney being made out to be a fool. Despite looking like just a run of the mill music producer, this song is proof that you should never cross Trent Reznor for any reason.
