4. Sweet Emotion - Aerosmith
Throughout their amazing run in the '70s, Aerosmith truly looked like a band of brothers whenever they took to the stage. No matter if they were playing some good old fashioned blues or some chaotic boogie rock freakout, you always got the sense that these guys were a gang who would lay down their lives for each other. In reality though, it was really hard to get these guys on the same page even at their creative peak.
During the recording of their breakthrough album Toys in the Attic, Steven Tyler kept getting annoyed that Joe Perry would spend hours and hours out of the studio hanging out with his girlfriend Elyssa instead of hanging out with them. Even though the album was able to be made without too much hassle, the need for one more song gave Tyler a chance to write lyrics that showed how he really felt.
Based around Tom Hamilton's bassline, Sweet Emotion is pretty much anything but the title implies, as Tyler goes on a rant complaining about Elyssa, from talking about meaningless things to wanting to get as far away from her as he possibly can. While this kind of pent-up tension eventually led the band to implode, at least this kind of saltiness sounded good while it lasted.
