10 Greatest Double Albums In Music History
7. In Your Honor - Foo Fighters
Dave Grohl has been known as one of the most versatile musicians still working in the rock scene today. For as eclectic as his tastes in session work were though, you could always tell when you were listening to a Foo Fighters record, taking the loud guitars and making for a stadium rock level of volume that shook your speakers every time you put it on. That doesn't say it all for Mr. Grohl though, so it was time for a switch up on In Your Honor.
Though the first half of the record is your traditional Foos record with catchy choruses and singalong anthems, the real meat behind this project comes with the second disc. Almost acting like the second act for the record, this is where Dave gets a little more mellow, breaking out acoustic instruments and making songs that are a lot more vulnerable than before, like Friend of a Friend dealing with the memory of Kurt Cobain and eventually writing songs like On the Mend about the fight that Taylor Hawkins went through to recover from his overdose in 2002.
Coming from a band that had been around the block a couple times in the rock world, this was a kind of shift that none of us were particularly prepared for. Just because we're not ready doesn't mean it's going to be bad though. In the years since, this was the first sign that the Foos gave us to show that they were still human.
