10 Greatest Drummers In Hard Rock
1. Neil Peart - Rush
So, how do you come to the conclusion of the greatest drummer in hard rock? Is it the guy who's able to play a thousand notes per second or is it the guy able to sit in the song and play just the right fills to make the track come alive? The real question is: why choose or one or the other when Neil Peart is both?
Though Rush already had fifteen layers of shred coming from Alex Lifeson and Geddy Lee, Neil Peart quickly made his presence known as one of the greatest drummers that rock music had ever seen. Being one of the most technically proficient in his field, Peart's construction of drum parts almost felt like assembling architecture, as he pulled out different playing styles left and right to suit his needs. Sometimes he'd be playing a random bar of 7/4 in the middle of the song, and the next he would be playing something influenced by African rhythms.
Above all else, Peart always remember that his role was being a student of the music he played, as he continued to improve his craft as Rush made their way into the '90s and '00s. There have been many drummers who have been called masters of their field, but Neil Peart is the only one called the Professor for a damn good reason.
