10 Greatest Drummers In Rock Music History
6. Dave Grohl - Nirvana/Foo Fighters/Everything Else
Once the '90s rock movement started to kick in, it was strange that every band was put into the same category. Even though they were all labeled as grunge, Pearl Jam didn't sound that much like Soundgarden, and no one really sounded like Alice in Chains either. If every band had their own thing, then Nirvana had their Swiss Army knife in the madman behind the drum kit.
Outside of being the main man for the Foo Fighters these days, Dave Grohl has always been most at home behind the drum kit, going back to when he practiced on pillows in his bedroom. While most of the praise of Nirvana comes down to Kurt Cobain, Dave always knew how to serve the song and give just the right accents to make everything explode.
Just think about a song like Smells Like Teen Spirit. The riff itself is a monster, but the song doesn't really come alive until you hear Dave's drum fill come screaming in. And the man still finds time to drum when not being up front at a Foo Fighters show, jamming with Queens of the Stone Age, Nine Inch Nails, and the supergroup Them Crooked Vultures to name just a few.
In terms of musical veterans of the rock scene, Dave Grohl feels like the drum student who listened to every lesson he learned from the masters and then applied them.
