10 Greatest Duets In Rock History

4. Know Your Enemy - Rage Against The Machine (Feat. Maynard James Keenan)

Most hard rock fans know what they're getting into when they throw on a Rage Against the Machine song. While most of the band's topics don't stray too far from personal politics and being aware of your rights as an individual, it never feels forced whenever Tom Morello brings in his ferocious guitar. Whereas most of the venomous lyrics are spit by Zack de la Rocha, Know Your Enemy became one of the most awe-inspiring collaborations to come out of the '90s.

Up until the midpoint of the song, it feels like it's going to be a standard call to arms song from Rage, as de la Rocha lashes out at those who aren't aware of the venomous people around them. On the other hand, the real killing blow comes when Maynard James Keenan from Tool flexes his chops across the melodic bridge section.

Seeing how Tool's Adam Jones was once in a band with Tom Morello back in the day, it made sense that the two musical forces eventually come together for a track. As opposed to the blunt sledgehammer vocals you get from Zack, Maynard's voice offers a counterpoint, almost luring you in like a python before tearing your head off. You don't really get to see too much melodic singing from Rage, and yet if there was anyone who could do this justice, it was Maynard. Forget the sledgehammer vocals... this was a damn wrecking ball headed straight for your brain.
