10 Greatest Eddie Van Halen Guitar Moments

7. Ice Cream Man - Van Halen I

It seems a bit strange giving one of Eddie's greatest performances to a cover song. For as much as an artist might like to show off, is it really fair when judging their rendition of someone else's work? However, when it comes to the covers that Van Halen performed, fans were given some of the most jaw-dropping renditions of classic hits.

Originally a blues song by John Brim, the first section of "Ice Cream Man" is dominated by Roth on an acoustic guitar, but the entire song comes to life when Eddie straps on his six-string. From one verse to the next, Eddie's groove locks in with Alex to make a blues jam that can shake the entire world. The song was already a worthy inclusion on the band's debut, but the solo will leave the most technical guitarists speechless.

Shredding through different chord formations, Eddie stretches his fingers farther than many have even thought were possible, with one particular stretch reaching across 7 frets. The trick seemed difficult for even Eddie to pull off sometimes, where he would normally be seen positioning the guitar in a certain way so he could play what he had written. It's one thing to write a phenomenal solo, but when you come up with something so complex that even your fingers can't pull it off, you're channeling something from another dimension.
