10 Greatest Emo Songs Ever Written

6. Hawthorne Heights €“ Ohio Is For Lovers

You know a song is popular when you hear it's name multiple times before you hear the actual music. Back when this song first released, I heard the phrase €œOhio is for lovers€ used repeatedly before knowing it was a Hawthorne Heights track. In the years since, Ohio Is For Lovers has come to be regarded as quintessentially emo, a classic track from the era. The song was released in 2004 from Hawthorne Height's debut studio album The Silence In Black And White, and has often been referred to as €œThe Emo Anthem€. The music video features the band performing in an abandoned, decrepit building and mysteriously ageing girl. The track details the band's feelings as they leave their girlfriends behind in Ohio to go on tour. It features possibly the most famous emo lyrics ever written: €œso cut my wrists and black my eyes so I can fall asleep tonight or die€. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hUO-sRLotOI
