10 Greatest Ever Fleetwood Mac Songs

8. Oh Well

Written and composed by the vocalist and lead guitarist Peter Green and released in the summer of 1969, "Oh Well" is one of the best examples of the early blues sound Fleetwood Mac had been experimenting with before they found their commercial success.

Split into two separate parts, the first of which is undoubtedly the more well-known on the back of being played live extensively in the band's early years. Initially dismissed as a 'throwaway riff', part one of Oh Well features a fast blues sound bridged by gaps in the music for Green to get his verses in, only for the riff to kick in again in a style very plucked straight from the time.

The second part features more of Green's Spanish acoustic guitar, with the Englishman also providing instrumental passages on the recorder and cello.

A lost Mac gem for a number of years after its initial release, Oh Well was released on the band's "Then Play On" and 1971 "Greatest Hits" albums. The song was also later presented to the new generation of Mac fans by being bundled in with the 1992 boxed set "25 Years – The Chain", the 2002 compilation album "The Best of Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac", and on 2018's "50 Years - Don't Stop".
