10 Greatest Ever Fleetwood Mac Songs

6. Rhiannon

One of the songs that helped propel Stevie Nicks to the front of everyone's attention, "Rhiannon" was released as a single for the 1975 self-titled "Fleetwood Mac" album.

Written by Nicks, the song takes inspiration from a story of a woman being possessed by a witch named Rhiannon, with the name also being used in a similar old Welsh legend. Nicks was reportedly fascinated by the link between the name and the two stories, and Rhiannon would be the first part of a long creative project based around the witch for the artist, with the song "Angel" also being inspired by the tale.

Musically, Rhiannon is one of the most beautifully haunting tracks from the 1970s, with Buckingham's infectious melody on lead guitar perfectly complimenting Nicks' wide range of vocals.

The song would not only help launch the most commercially successful part of the band's time together, but also cemented Stevie Nicks as the beautiful and mysterious figure so many in the industry have become obsessed with in the years after its release.

Rhiannon was one of the band's most successful singles following its release in 1976, reaching no.11 in the US charts and being named in Rolling Stone magazine as one of the '500 Greatest Songs of All Time'.
