4. Bleeding Me
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SiKszUWcT_I So, on 'Load', the "Metalli-cats" grew up gracefully and decided to channel a lot of the Thin Lizzy and AC/DC they were listening to and make their own bluesy, hard rock sound. It was a masterstroke, sounding so natural and very unforced. Part of me wishes they just continued down this path, rather than trying to be a Thrash band again. Anyway, the Load album is very bleak and inward looking. The choice cut has to be this eight minute plus, epic that features another terrific solo that is so full of soul and passion that Kirk really got a great deal of attention, from fans and critics alike. The lead in is massive, and the first time I heard the solo, I knew from the opening seconds that it was going to a special lead part. The repeated triplet part half way through works so well and again, is as bluesy as they come. This one definitely shows Hammett's often talked about worship of a certain Mr Hendrix. The octave chords are stunning as well as they mirror what is going on underneath. Genius.
