10 Greatest Ever Stone Roses Songs

9. She Bangs The Drums

A hi-hat beat tees up Mani’s incredible rumbling bass line and immediately She Bangs The Drums feels special. The guitars soon arrive to kick things up a notch and from there, the band’s most up beat song never lets up.

The song describes a woman who is the subject of the singers love and/or lust. The lyric explores the way a new romance can make you feel both stronger and weaker at the same time. One minute singer Ian Brown, “don’t feel too steady on my feet,” the next he’s insisting, “the past was yours but the futures mine.”

But words can only say so much. “Have you seen her, have you heard?” Brown asks in the chorus, “the way she plays there are no words/to describe the way I feel.”

If words fail them, the band’s music here does a valiant effort of trying to evoke the giddily, transcendent feeling of meeting someone and feeling like a better person just for knowing they exist.
