10 Greatest Feel Good Rock Songs
7. Don't Stop Believin' - Journey
The start of the '70s was not really a good time for Journey. Long before becoming the staples of radio rock that we know and love today, the individual members were slogging it out with jam band music that could never find an audience. Once Steve Perry and Jonathan Cain were added to the picture though, things took a turn for the better.
When Cain was going through material for songs one day, he thought back to advice his father gave him back when he was trying to make ends meet: don't stop believing. Hitting one of the most classic chord progressions on his piano, Cain's collaboration with Steve Perry became one of the greatest pop rock songs ever made, with a spirit that has never dwindled with age. Though the song itself is pop perfection, it wouldn't be half of what it is without Neal Schon's guitar, whose heaviness gave the song the edge that it needed.
Over time, Don't Stop Believin' has made the journey (excuse the pun) from being a classic tune of the '80s to a cheesy relic from years ago to somehow back into classic territory all over again. The song may be played into the ground at this point, but given how good it makes you feel, it gets played this many times for a damn good reason.
