10 Greatest Female Hard Rock Singers Of All Time

2. Joan Jett

The arrival of punk rock was such a welcome change of pace in the late '70s.

Seeing how the original gods of rock were starting to look more and more like pampered musicians, these newer acts were getting dirty and bringing rock back into the clubs where they were always meant to be. This meant new looks, new tricks, and one of the greatest women to ever emerge from the rock scene.

Though she was originally put together with other female artists in the Runaways, Joan Jett quickly became one of the biggest forces in rock and roll. It's not just that her songs are good though....but every single song she ever put on the hit parade is a blueprint for the rowdy rock and roll that everyone loved in their youth.

Whether it was the fiery surge of Bad Reputation or the down and dirty love song of I Hate Myself for Loving You, Joan always had a knack for writing tunes that were dead simple and yet impossible to duplicate properly.

Being one of the first female punk rock presences, Jett always wore her guitar like a badge of honor, willing to put her life on the line if it meant performing the music she loved. While many people would call this "pretty good for a girl," most male rockers should consider themselves lucky if they did half of what Joan Jett could do.
