10 Greatest Final Rock Albums Of The 2010s
3. Dissociation - The Dillinger Escape Plan
In 2016, hardcore greats The Dillinger Escape Plan announced they were splitting up after their next album, citing a desire to go out on top and not "pull a Seinfeld".
Hey, Season 9 wasn't brilliant, but it wasn't that bad.
That album would turn out to be Dissociation, which was released later that year. This was only their sixth studio effort, a relative drop in the ocean compared to other bands on this list, and it was just as well-received as all of their previous highly-acclaimed work.
Some original fans of the Escape Plan had been critical of a perceived softening of their music over time, but this record dealt with those claims by ripping their heads off and then screaming directly down their neck holes. Dissociation was loud, brash, and intense, whilst also somehow remaining thoroughly melodic and well-crafted.
Since this album's release, the Dillinger lads have stayed true to their word and kept apart. The closest thing to a reunion was when drummer Billy Rymer temporarily joined Suicidal Tendencies, who had also picked up ex-frontman Ben Weinman.
Never say never though, even if they were pretty adamant during their initial breakup statement.
