10 Greatest Guitar Duos In Rock Music History
1. James Hetfield and Kirk Hammett - Metallica
If you were to ask any guitar player what the best part of their job is, it usually comes down to the riffs. Although soloing can be a lot of fun and recording is a blast, hearing people sync up on the same musical foundation is one of those musical highs that will never get old. And when it comes to the harder side of rock, Metallica practically have two virtuosos for the price of one.
In fact, this might be the one band where the rhythm guitarist gets most of the respect among rock fans, since James Hetfield has made a living out of writing utterly demonic riffs. Combined with his amazing attention to downpicking, most guitar players are still amazed at just how much endurance Mr. Hetfield puts into his craft while still being able to sing at the same time.
Oh yeah...and did we mention that Kirk Hammett is also responsible for some of the greatest solos in history? Even if people love to make fun of his borderline obsessive relationship with his wah pedal, Kirk has had some of the tastiest guitar pieces in the metal canon, from the tapping extravaganza of One to some of the bluesiest guitar playing of his career on The Unforgiven. Despite the memes of always using a wah pedal, why would you want to mess with the formula when it sounds this good?
