10 Greatest Guitar Duos In Rock Music History
5. Keith Richards and Brian Jones - The Rolling Stones
And now we come to the rock and roll band that started it all for most of us. When the genre was just getting born, seeing someone like Keith Richards tear through Chuck Berry licks was what made people want to pick up a guitar in the first place. Out of all the guitar players by his side though, no other really had the same attitude as Brian Jones.
Being in the Stones longer than Keef was, Brian was responsible for naming the band and was even their de facto manager for a spell when they were still trying to get gigs across Britain. Along with being the guitar player though, Brian was the true musical genius of the group, incorporating every other instrument he could think of into the mix, from a sitar on Paint it Black to different pianos and even performing some of the woodwind instrumentation on the ballad material in the Stones' catalog.
That's not to discount Keith though, since he's written pretty much an entire songbook on how to create amazing guitar riffs. Just by tuning his guitar differently, the trademark Stones-y sound of Start Me Up and Gimme Shelter became a lot more exciting than just your average rock and roll licks. As much as the British Invasion seemed fun at first, looking into the Stones' deep cuts is where the real darkness comes in.
