10 Greatest Guitar Duos In Rock Music History
4. Slash And Izzy Stradlin - Guns N Roses
Somewhere in the '80s, the rock and roll scene seemed to lose a little bit of its soul. Even though there were a lot of phenomenal bands making their mark around this time, the virtuoso styles of playing led the songs to suffer in lieu of people just trying to outplay one another whenever they got onstage. Right as the Sunset Strip started to get a little too concentrated, we got introduced to a team of guitarists who seemed like they crawled right out of the gutter.
As often as they were grouped into the hair metal category around the same time, the guitar stylings of Slash and Izzy Stradlin were miles away from what we were hearing in groups like Poison at the time. Compared to people like CC Deville who were lighting up the scene, Slash's approach was a lot more bluesy, with a tone that fit somewhere between Joe Perry and Eric Clapton at the best of times.
A lead guitarist is only as good as the songs that he's working with though, and Izzy really was the secret weapon in that department. Despite Axl being in charge of lyrics, songs like It's So Easy and Patience became what they are because of the riff ideas that Izzy was working with at the time. While other guitar players may have tried to play circles around these guys at the time, not one of them had the mojo of the World's Most Dangerous Band.
