10 Greatest Hair Metal Albums Of All Time

7. Skid Row - Skid Row

In any genre like hair metal, you're always going to find a few hangers on. You know the type too. The kind of bands who were best friends with a legend, so they just manage to ride their coattails for whatever they're worth. Even though Skid Row could have easily been considered one of those bands, they certainly had the chops to be the best of the best on their debut record.

Being "discovered" by Jon Bon Jovi, most of the appeal of Skid Row in the early days comes from Sebastian Bach's voice, which hit like an air raid siren whenever it came on. As opposed to just the usual sex and drugs style songwriting though, Snake Sabo and Rachel Bolan were about something a lot more interesting, with songs like 18 and Life telling a story about a kid on the wrong side of the tracks.

This album in general also doesn't get enough credit for how heavy it was compared to its peers. At a time when Warrant and Winger were some of the hottest bands around, songs like Youth Gone Wild was a fitting way to keep the hair metal scene grounded. Since this was released during the tail end of the '80s, Skid Row holds the distinction as one of the last truly great bands to come out of the scene.
