10 Greatest Hair Metal Albums Of All Time
6. Permanent Vacation - Aerosmith
For all rock connoisseurs, Aerosmith seemed to be born a couple of years too early. Even though their unique brand of boogie woogie rock was pivotal in the sound of the '70s, the electricity of their live show would have sold like gangbusters if they came out in the era of hair metal. As it turns out though, all we had to do was wait a little while for them to catch up.
After years of guitarists being in and out of the band, the return of Joe Perry and Brad Whitford made the band feel like a well oiled machine on Permanent Vacation, complete with some of the greatest tunes of their career. Now with everyone sober, it almost feels like you're listening to a band reborn, especially when you have help from Desmond Child on songs like Dude Looks Like a Lady and Angel.
Even when transitioning into the world of hair metal though, Aerosmith never forgot their roots, even breaking out the lap steel guitar for songs like Rag Doll and getting even more experimental with the final track the Movie. Some fans might have called this phase hardcore selling out on Aerosmith's part, but if your songs are still able to hit this well, they could sell out all they wanted and still made it work in the '80s.
