10 Greatest Hair Metal Albums Of All Time
8. Stay Hungry - Twisted Sister
At the start of the '80s, Twisted Sister became one of hair metal's first real success stories. After slogging it out for almost a decade on the Jersey club scene, the larger than life persona that these guys put on for their fans culminated in some of the greatest early music videos, which combined the theatricality of glam rock with the comedy of Looney Tunes. So much crazy stuff ended up going down in the video that many people sidestep the fact that the music kicked ass too.
Getting their start at the tail end of the glam rock movement in the '70s, Twisted Sister's look was made to shock, with every member trying to look both feminine and tough all at the same time. While you can say what you want to about the outfits, songs like I Wanna Rock are still great enough to warrant a spot in '80s rock history. Across this record, Dee Snider is also at his most savage, playing off of Jay Jay French's guitar lines like he's about to explode with anger.
At a time when most bands were making singles and worrying about the filler songs later, Stay Hungry is still a mammoth record that feels as angry as it was back in its heyday. Even though the music videos may be a little much, don't let that distract you from the quality beneath the surface.
