10 Greatest Hair Metal Albums Of All Time

4. Dr. Feelgood - Motley Crue

The arrival of Motley Crue on the Sunset Strip marked a sea change in the way that hair metal was perceived. While some other acts were mining the same type of fun-loving party sound, Motley announced the arrival of the movement, with almost every member playing up their larger than life personas in whatever way they could. Even though their '80s output is a series of greatest hits, they saved the real magic for the very end of the decade.

After years of escaping the #1 spot on the album charts, Motley moved up to Vancouver with Bob Rock to create Dr. Feelgood, which brought some of the best songs in their catalog. From front to back, every song on this record has its own distinct character, whether it's the boozy rocker of SOS or the skeezy swing blues of the title track.

As things started to take shape, the best song on the record ended up coming at the 11th hour, with the punk-tinged Kickstart My Heart becoming a staple across the hard rock scene. It turns out that this was one of hair metal's final hoorahs, as the tides would slowly shift in the next few years towards the rainy city of Seattle. Motley's days in the spotlight may have been numbered at this point, but at least they went out with a hell of a bang.
