10 Greatest Hard Rock Frontmen Of All Time
8. Lemmy - Motorhead
A good frontman doesn't always have to translate to being the best singer. While it certainly helps to have a stable set of pipes to bring across the song, the actual talent comes in with your ability to make a group of musicians surge in a way that no one else can. Despite his more slipshot delivery, Lemmy's approach to the hard rock stage paved the way for what rock would look like in the coming decades.
With a microphone set up high, Lemmy's power stance onstage was like watching a bold outlaw ripped straight out of a Western, as his trademark Rickenbacker bass served as his pistol. Even though it was sometimes hard to really make out the notes you were hearing from the back of his throat, you believed every single word, as Lemmy lived the hard partying lifestyle to the fullest extent.
Though his actual skills talking to the crowd were pretty commendable, the idea of Lemmy as a great frontman comes down to one truth: no Lemmy, no Motorhead. While there was an ever-evolving lineup since its inception, Lemmy was the lynchpin that made everything jump, almost as if he had his music down to a near science. Now that he is no longer with us, here's hoping that Lemmy is off on the other side rumbling the heavens (and the underworld) with his trademark growl.
