10 Greatest Hard Rock Guitarists Of The '90s

8. Wes Borland - Limp Bizkit

There's a damn good reason why Limp Bizkit has their name slung through the mud. From the first time Fred Durst opened his mouth, the band was poised to be one of the most obnoxious acts that the nu metal genre would ever produce. However, something much more interesting was happening once you got past the backwards-baseball hat wearing frontman.

Standing just right of center, Wes Borland's guitar chops were some of the best in the entire metal genre. Combining the flashy tendencies of traditional metal players with an off-kilter weirdness reminiscent of bands like Primus, Borland's style was far greater than anyone was expecting on first glance. Even when the band ended up on the soundtrack to Mission Impossible 2, Borland's meaty chords made that same old theme song sound iconic once again.

With all of that talent going for him, Borland still couldn't get his fair share of the spotlight, often leading to him wearing outlandish outfits to divert the audience's attention over to his direction. Once he had had enough in the early 2000's, Limp Bizkit didn't have a prayer of breaking any new sonic ground without their star guitarist. As far as raw talent, Wes Borland is one of many great musicians who deserves so much better than the band he's working with.
