10 Greatest Hard Rock Guitarists Of The '90s

5. Mark Tremonti - Creed

For years now, people have found new and interesting ways to bash Creed. From the pretentious lyrics to the droning sound of Scott Stapp's voice, the band's status as a nostalgic meme of the '90s has not been totally illegitimate. However, there was actually a stroke of musical genius once you listened to the music behind Stapp's voice.

Bubbling underneath, Mark Tremonti is actually one of the best kept secrets of '90s rock. Though not everything he did in Creed was flashy, the times when he got to solo made for some unreal moments for the six-string. Being a descendant of more metal outfits like Metallica and Mercyful Fate, Tremonti's approach to the guitar was a lot heavier than anyone else in the post grunge world. Even if you weren't down with the whole Creed package, songs like "Bullets" have some of the greatest riffs of the late '90s.

Once Creed finally came to an end in the 2000's, Tremonti's course correction with Alter Bridge gave the entire rock world a hard rock band that we could all be proud of. Though the breaking-in period for Tremonti was a bit mixed, seeing him deliver concentrated kickass for the past few years has been a sight to behold.
