10 Greatest Headbanging Metal Songs
9. The Beautiful People - Marilyn Manson
After the first wave of grunge came and went, it seemed that the age of headbanging had taken a nosedive. Oh, it was still there, but the era of having songs designed to make you move was replaced by angsty songs that made you just want to find a comfy spot up against the wall at a party. Even though most fans were donning their flannel and complaining about their lives, Marilyn Manson arrived in the late '90s and grabbed the hard rock world by the jugular.
Coming off of his magnum opus AntiChrist Superstar, The Beautiful People is one of the most hypnotic tunes in the metal canon. While there's not too much to work with in Manson's voice outside of his SPOOKY articulation, the star of this show has to be the drums, set to a beat that feels like you're about to take part in a Satanic tribal dance.
Credit where it's due, Manson at least knew he had a hook on his hands, given that every single guitar stab mirrors the drum beat, almost dragging you back down to the floor every time you hear it. Marilyn Manson would later find out that shock value did have diminishing returns, but for right now, there was no one who could touch him in turns of raw, unholy rhythm.
