10 Greatest Headbanging Metal Songs
8. Bulls on Parade - Rage Against the Machine
At the start of the '90s, fans were responding to hard rock in droves...just not that of the metal variety. Just when bands like Megadeth and Metallica were coming out with some of the most classic albums of their career, the gloom of Seattle took things back a bit, with songs that had a lot of punch but were a lot more introspective on closer inspection. Even though the odds were stacked against them, Rage Against the Machine were able to come through with one of the most forceful smacks to the face in metal history.
Long before nu metal acts like Korn came into their own, Bulls on Parade was the first song that made rap rock feel almost dangerous. While the first Rage album was still full of great hooks and quotable lines, fans were still getting used to pointed lyrics from Zack de la Rocha or Tom Morello's alien-like guitar lines. There ain't no more time to screw around here though, as de la Rocha grunts every line through gritted teeth, as the rhythm section provide a musical avalanche to take you back down the slope.
For most of the '90s rock scene, things couldn't get much better than the alternative rock sound. After Rage finally took hold of the masses, Bulls on Parade became the unofficial call to arms to any metalhead who has ever felt oppressed. No more acting dour...this was when things got real.
