10 Greatest Hip Hop Producers Of All Time

7. Large Professor

Large Professor will probably never get the sort of mainstream props other producers from New York will receive, but real hip hop heads know how important his contribution has been to the genre.

One of the first people to bring rap legend Nas onto the music scene and a key member of Main Source, Large Professor has lent his production skills to some of the best underground hip hop records of all time. From Live At The Barbecue (the song which features a teenage Nas' first rap vocals) to Keep It Rollin' by A Tribe Called Quest, Professor has somewhat silently manoeuvred his way through the hip hop landscape, helping craft some of your favourite songs.

His keen ear for samples and drum patterns are second to none, plus the fact that he's a talented MC himself means that he has the unique perspective of being behind the board and inside the booth. His production isn't necessarily flashy or incredibly ground breaking, but it doesn't need to be when every beat sounds like something any MC worth their salt would want to jump on.
