10 Greatest INXS Songs Of All Time
9. Burn for You
The band was just becoming recognised around the world when The Swing album was released in 1984, and while Original Sin was the song to grab the world's attention, Burn for You was a sure sign of the band's development. This track is as eclectic as the band got, with Andrew Farriss' keyboards taking centre stage and a rather feminine sounding chorus powering over Hutchence's crooning verses.
This was a real sign of development in the band's sound, incorporating a new feel that took them out of their rock stylings with a delicious infusing of pop. The song was a smash at home without flattering overseas, but it's a song that refuses to grow tired and remains one of their early classics.
An interesting footnote for this song is that it was one of the band's longer arrangements, the standard three minute run time expanding out to five here. Surprisingly, the band shifted away from longer tracks after this, only reverting back to this format for 1992's Welcome to Wherever You Are. Considering the weak response for that album, maybe this was for the better.
