10 Greatest INXS Songs Of All Time
3. Original Sin
The band's first bonafide worldwide hit, it unsurprisingly caused a stir in the States due to its contentious (for the time anyway) content matter. The tune is a decent one without going to any new places or significant heights, but it's the powerful message and sad overtones that makes this song so poignant and so damn unforgettable.
The iconic chorus line, 'Dream on black boy, Dream on white girl', made it abundantly clear that Hutchence was making a clear step into the political world for this number. It was a bold step for the band, who had until this point not displayed the same political intent of the likes of Midnight Oil, who prided themselves as being an out and out political band.
Thank goodness that Hutchence did go down this path, as it is a song that sadly still resonates today more than it should. The song is also a great reminder of what an awesome and gutsy songwriter Hutchence was.
