6. Axl Rose
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YHe1XPTioIk Love him or hate him, Axls debut with Guns n Roses, Appetite for Destruction, is arguably one of the greatest rock albums ever made. Dirty, angry, loud and vile but always with a sense of humour and theatricality, GnR hit the nail on the head with snake-like riffs, killer solos, thumping beats and vocals so vitriolic and catchy that theyll have your Grandma singing along, although she wont know how or why. The success of GnR is largely down to Axls phenomenal voice (and regrettably also his cycling shorts it would seem) and so he must not be dismissed, no matter what he may have become these days. Angry, unpredictable and with a predilection for storming off stage for the slightest of perceived infractions, Axl doesnt make it easy to love him. But its impossible to deny his invaluable contribution to rock music. I mean, without Sweet Child, most afternoon rock radio stations would have gone out of business years ago His voice and his songs remain a high point of 80s excess era-rock. RECOMMENDED LISTENING: Appetite for Destruction, Live Era 87-93
