10 Greatest Metallica Riffs EVER
6. Fight Fire With Fire
Fight Fire with Fire probably holds the distinction as one of the most confusing Metallica songs ever. Before you even get to the proper song, the lead in of a classical acoustic piece played by Cliff Burton is already enough to fool parents into thinking this song is a gentle offering. However, Metallica had a few different plans when actually kicking off Ride the Lightning.
As the surge of electricity comes crescendo-ing into your speakers, Hetfield's right hand practically flies off the handle, at a pace that would leave even the seasoned pros with a sprained wrist.
You'll think that you have it down by the time the drums come in, and yet it feels like it gets faster with every single second. That's before you even get to the solo section, which adds the gallop in the most inopportune places, leaving you to almost play catchup with the song every time you try to play along with it.
Even with all of the straight ahead rhythm tracks, the hardest part of the song has got to be the actual harmony guitars, which have all the flashiness of a solo combined with the eerie preciseness of James' playing. While Kill em All sent these guys out on the road ready to kill, starting off your record like this put every other thrash act to shame from the word go.
