10 Greatest Modern Rock Songs About Getting Drunk
5. Alkaline Trio - "Olde English 800"
"You're charcoal filtered
Sun yellow malt liquor
You make my grey skies blue
I drink it daily
As my liver's failing
But I don't give a f**k
Olde English, I'm in love with you"
This punk threesome from Illinois made a strong habit writing about getting drunk early on in their career. To the point where something felt a bit off if they didn't include a line about blacking out in one of their songs.
While the majority of those songs are depressing as all hell, they were able to pull themselves out of their perpetual pit of despair long enough to toss off this rough, jolly ode to malt liquor. And it's a real delight.
As simple as it gets, Alkaline Trio gives their earnest appreciation to the beverage that fueled so many of their best and worst nights, and fueled their creativity.
Honestly, it's one of the finest, most sincere love songs of the last decade.
