10 Greatest Modern Rock Songs About Getting Drunk
3. Reel Big Fish - "Beer"
1234531"And if I get drunk well, I'll pass out on the floor now baby
You won't bother me no more
And if you're drinkin' well, you know that you're my friend and I say
I think I'll have myself a beer"
Not every song about drinking has to be full of depth to be great. And on the surface, this jaunty ska punk track about everyone's favorite way to consume barley has less under the hood than a brand new sports car that was left overnight in the bad part of town.
Scratch a little further, however, and there's actually a pretty complex little relationship story playing out in the lyrics.
The guy in the song has been dumped by his girl, and she's quickly moved onto another fella. So, naturally, it's time to drink. Heck, she might've even been with this other guy before she officially broke it off. So it's time to drink more. This poor guy is at his absolute lowest, and is considering doing something drastic. And the drinks keep flowing.
...But then she talks about getting back together for one last hurrah. She's still with that other guy, but he doesn't have to know about it. So what does he say?
Naturally, that it's time for another beer.
