10 Greatest Modern Rock Songs About Getting Drunk

2. Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats - "S.O.B."

"Son of a bitch, give me a drink
One more night, this can't be me
Son of a bitch
If I can't get clean, I'm gonna drink my life away"

Holy hell, has there ever been a more joyful-sounding song about struggling to get sober and putting your life back on track?

At first listen, "S.O.B." sounds like a revivalist, foot-stomping ode to letting loose and getting plastered, but there's a much darker heartbeat here that often gets drowned out by all the handclaps.

Alcoholism is a deep and personal issue with Rateliff, who suffered from withdrawal delirium and actually went through all those feelings of "hands shaking" and "bugs crawling all over" when he tried to get clean.

This is the type of song that you'll put on at the jukebox and everyone in the bar will sing along with it until, one by one, they all start to realize this isn't the bottoms-up anthem it sounded like out of the gate, and maybe they should put down their glasses and start taking it easy for the night.
