10 Greatest MTV Unplugged Rock Performances
4. Pearl Jam
In 1992, Pearl Jam were taking the world by storm following the release of their debut album Ten a year earlier, and were one of the bands who had firmly put the Seattle music scene on the map. They had been formed by guitarist Stone Gossard and bassist Jeff Ament after their former group Mother Love Bone had ended following the death of singer Andy Wood.
The duo discovered and introduced extraordinary vocalist Eddie Vedder to the world, and the songs of Ten perfectly transferred to the Unplugged style. Specifically, the intensity of Vedder’s voice really seemed to come alive, delivering one of the shows all-time standout performances on the song Black.
However, Pearl Jam's set remained unreleased until 2009, which in some ways had always given the appearance an air of mystery when compared to some other more widely available recorded shows.
